Back in August 2004, Steve was invited to appear with his
ukulele in an all day 40's event. This major event was held in the grounds of "Alscot Park" near Stratford
upon Avon, with all the profits from the day going to "The Royal British Legion".
There were several acts on the main stage, the main act being the world
famous "Glenn Miller Orchestra UK" conducted by Ray McVay.
Steve performed a 45 minuite spot in which he performed a total of
twelve classic George Formby songs with his ukulele. The audience which totaled around 5,500 were in awe of his spot and sang
along to most of the songs.
Steve had a great rappore with the audience and as the photos underneath
show, he really enjoyed his spot. For the final number came "Leaning on a Lampost" in which 99% of the audience
joined in. After his spot Steve stayed for the remainder of the show, mixing with the crowds and was congratulated on
his performance time after time by the many people who came upto him.
As Steve quotes "When it was my spot, the thrill and excitement was
mind blowing. When people were singing back at me and joining in it was fantastic. To have the entire audience singing with
me to Leaning on a Lamp was and still is something that I will remember for a very long time. Not only for the fact that everyone
seemed to like my act, but also the fact that Georges songs are still remembered word for word by so many".
