Formby

I have two pet dogs. Looking at the photo's you would find it hard to believe they were brother & sister.

They were both born on or about 10th February 2000. This is an estimated date as they were abandoned as small puppies. They are out of a litter of seven that were dumped. I could only take in two of the litter, but I'm sure the others were found good homes as they were under the care of "the rescue puppy centre", based in Warwickshire.

Ellie, along with her brother is a mixture of collie x, setter and a range of other mixes in her make up. She is a very placid girl and loves to be fussed and the centre of attention.

She is the brainy one out of them and is always in the forefront when getting into mischief.

Although placid she is very protective of her brother, the house, garden and me. Even though she looks as though butter wouldn't melt in her mouth, she is more than capable of looking after herself and is a very good guard dog when left unattended.

Formby

Formby was named after my hero George Formby. He is a very loving dog, he has had to be taught everything as he has always struggled to learn for himself.

The highlight of Formby's day is his walk. He always has to take the same route as he doesn't like change, but he does have his own fan club as other people have got to know him, some even wait to see him with biscuits in hand. He looks out for Ellie, myself and the house when unattended. I trust him immensly as a pet & guard dog but I wouldn't like to meet him if he were alone & I was a stranger.

Both these dogs had a bad start in life, having being left abandoned to die cold and hungry. They have however overcome their terrible start to life and now seem happy and content with their lives. To begin with they were both shy and withdrawn, but after alot of loving care and attention they have developed into healthy, stong and very loyal pets.

At one stage, after having replaced the panel fence with chain link (both of these torn down by Formby) and after having a "Dog behaviour expert" examine these two, we were very close to having to decide whether we could carry on with them or not. As we both love these two to bits, we decided to give them one more chance. Looking back we are glad we did, as they have both been great fun to have, now that they have settled down.
